Happy Birthday, Edmond Halley!

8th November 2011 By stephanie

On today’s Google Doodle: Today is Edmond Halley’s 335th birthday. He’ s the English astronomer best known for computing the orbit of the comet in his name. I didn’t know that “Halley” (as in the comet, named for the English astronomer who computed its orbit) has three different pronounciations. I’m accustomed to the one that […]

Video: Geek Knitting

7th November 2011 By stephanie

This video covers the basic geeky arts of knitting and purling, as well as casting on (how you start a project) and casting off (how you finish a project). Because they’re outdoors, the natural sunlight makes things easy to see. The demonstrators explain things without jargon, which is another thing that makes this easy to […]

My current project is a set of seven scarves, for Havi Brooks’ Playground Shop at The Fluent Self.  They are knit with Lion Brand Jiffy yarn (Shocking Pink, and Black), which I bought from a fabulous online yarn shop called Banyan Tree Yarns. Georganne Cauchi, the proprietor, has been helping me with many of my latest […]

There’s a Crime Scene in My Kitchen!

1st November 2011 By stephanie

Red splotches were all over the floor, and smeared across the microwave. I mopped up the sticky, red oozing liquid with paper towels, then took  the glass shelves out of the fridge and washed them in the sink. Defrosted strawberries got spilled in the fridge.

Why I Photograph My Etsy Projects with Spock the Cat

29th October 2011 By stephanie

Many people ask me about why I photograph so many of my Etsy projects with one of my cats, Spock. His white bib provides a great contrast against my subject, and he loves posing for the camera.   Other than photos that have Spock in them, I keep my finished projects in sealed plastic containers, […]

Sex and Tolstoy

28th October 2011 By stephanie

Sexual repression and excitation is a theme in Tolstoy. Bet you never guessed that before, eh? Kiera Knightley is one of those actresses who has become known more for her looks, her breasts (or lack thereof), and her southern genitalia than her talent. I happen to respect her acting talent first. Having found out that she’ll […]

About Me

I've been knitting since I was ten, I have a frightening number of books, and love watching "Air Crash Investigation" while I knit with a cat in my face.
