Russia’s Anti-Gay Laws and the 2014 Olympics – A Personal Clarification

13th August 2013 By stephanie

Please take careful note of what I am about to say. If I am unclear, please read it again, or ask questions.

Russia’s attitude towards the LGBT community, the recently-enacted laws prohibiting adoption, and the banning of LGBT athletes from the upcoming Olympic Games in Sochi are all deplorable to me.

However, this has no impact whatsoever on my love of Russia as a country, separate from its politics, the Russian language, and the extremely rich history of a very old nation.

I love Russian. I love the country, its history and cuisine. I hate its politics.

I hope that the Olympics can be relocated to Vancouver, or that some sense comes to Putin. Stephen Fry has compared him to Hitler.

Is this Godwinning? I’d be hard-pressed to argue against it.
